What’s new in 2026?

The Doubles division is coming for Teams made up of 2 athletes, confirmed 3 ability levels and 6 Age Groups for Individuals up to 60 years of age and over

Many of you asked and we listened! The biggest change to the competition format concerns the Teams, which will no longer consist of a trio but a pair. For the 2026 edition, two ability divisions will be available for Teams of 2 athletes: Double Beginner and Double Intermediate. As always, access to the live competition is open to anyone, with no online qualifications: just secure one of the available slots when registration opens on 1 January 2026.

New Doubles division for Teams of 2

Pairs may consist of athletes of the same gender (M-M, F-F) or mixed gender (M-F) and will share the same playing field, obviously with different loads for males and females. The workouts will generally be of the “I go, You go” type, in which one partner completes the required repetitions while the other rests; therefore, the two partners will have to find the right strategy to alternate and complete the required work most effectively.

On the leaderboard, pairs will be able to compare both by division (overall ranking of all pairs of the same ability level) and by gender sub-division (specific ranking for males, females or mixed pairs). The top three pairs in each division and gender will receive awards on the podium. By popular demand, the competition for Teams of 2 will no longer last a single day but will now span two consecutive days: Saturday and Sunday.

For Individuals 3 levels and 6 Age Groups

Beginner and Intermediate Individuals will also compete for two days: Friday and Saturday. For athletes in the Individual Rx division, the competition will remain unchanged over three consecutive days: Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For Individual athletes, the three ability levels based on the actual skills of CrossFit class participants have been confirmed for the 2026 edition: Beginner, Intermediate and Rx.

The Age Group format for athletes up to 60+ years old has been confirmed, available in all ability divisions. Therefore, Masters will be able to choose their ability level best suited to their skills, as well as their age. All athletes will be able to compare not only against the same age peers but also against all other competitors of the same ability level. The top three finishers in each ability division will ascend to the podium, while the winner of each age range will be named “Age Group Champion“.

The largest playing field ever

The event will take place on 29, 30 and 31 May 2026 in an entire pavilion at the Rimini Expo Center, where Xenios USA will set up a massive competition arena with a double rig over 24 lanes for the competition, and 24 individual stations for the warm-up area. All participants will be able to experience the unique thrill of competing live under the floodlights, with no qualifications or eliminations!

Covering over 3.000 square meters, there will also be areas dedicated to workouts, classes and seminars for the public, a recovery zone with treatments reserved for athletes and sponsor and partner booths offering exclusive shopping deals. With the RiminiWellness ticket, included in registration, athletes will also be able to participate in all the fair’s activities.

Registration for the 2026 Italian Showdown will open on 1 January 2026 at 10.30 AM CET on Competition Corner, with direct access to the live event and no online qualifications.
